RAK offers some of the most affordable private education in the UAE, with fees ranging from AED 2K to 54K a year. Indian schools are the most affordable, while British schools like GEMS Westminster and RAK Academy sit at the higher end. The overall fee ceiling is a fraction of Dubai's, reflecting the emirate's more accessible cost of living. RAKDOK regulates fee structures, and the same UAE-wide rules on fee transparency apply.

RAKDOK conducts quality evaluations using the UAE unified inspection framework, the same system used by KHDA, ADEK and SPEA, with ratings from Outstanding to Weak. In the 2026 evaluation cycle, RAK Academy Al Hamra became the first school in the emirate to achieve an Outstanding rating, and two schools are now rated Very Good. RAKDOK outsourced its 2026 evaluations to the independent company Etio Global, and schools offering Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi curriculums are due to be evaluated later in the year. RAKDOK publishes evaluation outcomes and is building toward full transparency comparable to KHDA and SPEA.

RAK is a smaller market, so the range per curriculum is more limited than Dubai or Abu Dhabi. British curriculum has the strongest presence in terms of quality, with RAK Academy (three campuses) and GEMS Westminster leading, while Indian schools offer strong value and American options are limited to two schools. Most schools are concentrated between Al Mamourah, Al Dhait and Julfar, so commute times are short. For 2026-27, children must turn 3 by 31 December of the admission year to enter Pre-K/FS1.

RAK has 32 schools across 8 curriculums. The MOE curriculum has the most schools, followed by Indian and British, with American limited to two schools. British curriculum schools have the strongest quality reputation, led by RAK Academy, which operates three campuses.

You will need an Emirates ID for both the child and at least one parent, the child's passport, visa, birth certificate, and the last two years of school reports. If transferring from another emirate, you need an attested transfer certificate from the previous school's regulator.

RAK is growing as a family destination with affordable housing, a relaxed lifestyle and improving school quality. The establishment of RAKDOK in 2023 has brought more structure and accountability. Fees are significantly lower than Dubai, and commute times are short.

RAK Academy's Khuzam campus offers the IB Diploma Programme alongside the British curriculum, the only IB option in the emirate. Families seeking a full IB programme from primary through secondary would need to look at schools in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

RAK has fewer schools and fewer curriculum options, but fees are much lower, with RAK's maximum a fraction of Dubai's. School quality is improving under RAKDOK. RAK is a strong option for families prioritising affordability and a smaller community feel.

Most schools open admissions between October and February for the following September. RAK's market is less competitive than Dubai, so securing places is generally straightforward, though applying 4 to 6 months ahead is recommended for the top schools.
